Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen - noob needs help

Alright good people,

 

I would like to get into one, or the other. My only experience is with Elite Dangerous Arena, I set up a VR/Motion platform and had the idea to use Arena to wow the public at events. That was mostly testing and I enjoyed the ship combat.

I don't really care about the companies behind both games, I stay away from all that and just want to enjoy as much as possible one of these games. 

Anyhow, I would welcome any thoughts from those of you who have played both extensively before I dive in. I am particularly interested if you are involved in a dedicated community for one of the games.

ED if you want a good game 

 

SC if you want an expensive demo 

 

If you buy ED and get Horizions your getting a Game that they have promised will run even after the servers shut down, 

With SC you might get a game in 40 years

Cheers for the suggestions, I would like to focus on gameplay, stuff todo and community.

 

For example if Star Citizen is simply fantastic (right now) and lasts me 3 months then i'm happy, if Elite is just better overall then thats fine.

I am not bothered about cost (I will just buy the basic package of which ever one) etc.

Elite right now is better overall. Can't get enough of it

I can recommend elite, sunk 190 hours into the game even before VR, well past 400 hours i think, i got the Rift only because of this game.

As for a dedicated community, i am a member of the mobius group, ingame you can choose to play solo, puplic or private server.

Its all really online but private means no dicks is going to prey on you.

Solo only NPC enemies

Private server like Mobius you meet other players that also has vowed not to attack other players without consent. Really useful you when your coming home from a 10.000+ ligthyear trip with good exploration data.

Slightly biased as a 2000+ hour Cmdr but hey

you must not buy ED without horizons though, literally getting 1% of the experience without it

It's looking like ED then.

I kinda keep getting drawn to the FPS element of SC but assume that's not really part of the main game/story/experience?

I haven’t played either but all lot of my friends played Elite Dangerous. Many say it’s way better with “hotas” style flight stick controls. Or an Xbox controller. 

 

Though no one I personally know has shelled out the money for space command or whatever and played enough of it to actually comment on what it’s like.
