I am based in Canada and not looking to import a laptop as it seems semi popular to do. I my spec needs are 8-16 gb of ram 128 gb SSD and an i7 processor. I don't have an exact budget but it is anything within reason pretty much. My current laptop is a Surface Pro 4 that cost me $1641 and change post taxes and fees.

The surface book pro should still be very good, especially if it is the i7 model... Is there any reason to change your current laptop?

A couple reasons, I was dumb and got the 4gb version with the i5. Also because my girlfriend needs a new laptop (I bought her a junk one...) and I am going to give her my surface to use.

Get a MacBook they are super overpriced, unreliable, have tons of thermal issues AND Apple will be happy! Come over to the corporate nightmare that is Apple Inc. and I experience the injustice firsthand!

Work is giving me a MacBook and I don't want it. I need something useful unlike a Mac

"Anything within reason"

You haven't even told us what you plan to use it for, how are we supposed to even guess at what a reasonable budget would be?
You really need to include one, as well as your use case, otherwise it's very hard to provide any real useful advice.

I listed some basic specs I need, the purpose list is too long to waste typing out. Reasonable budget, I posted what I paid for my current one so a little common sense based around that price and that I am asking for a decent spec.

I said in the OP I didn't want to order from the US. Import taxes are stupid expensive.

Computers are duty exempt. You'd pay tax, just like you would in Canada.

Yeah, that's still not helpful at all. Using it for gaming or using it for word processing are vastly different tasks. Or are you using it for content creation? Or CAD work? Just because that's what you paid before doesn't mean that's what you can pay now, or perhaps you feel like getting something better. You know. Use a little common sense. 9_9

Fine budget is between $100 and $2000 CAD. I posted my previous buy and the cost. I also said that I didn't care much about budget. So combine those two and that gives you a reasonable guess at what is fine. I am not looking to spend 10k on a laptop but any reasonable price is fine. Reasonable shouldn't be that hard.

What's the screen size and max weight you prefer? Do you need dGPU? Do you have any other requirements?
