Performance on Laptops

Hi,

SO I've had my dell xps 15 1560 for a month or so now and it's great! However, I've realised that I get a lot more fps in games whilst the laptop is charging. The laptop has a 4gb gtx 1050, and when it's not charging, it struggles running some basic games smoothly. The laptop also has an integrated intel 630 if that helps.

That's normal. The battery can't supply the maximum power draw the system is asking at full 100% clocks and boosts, so it clocks down so there isn't an overdraw causing the laptop to shut off.

Power & Sleep settings > Additional power settings > keep it in high performance mode when it's in battery mode. You can also Change Plan Settings to optimize it further.

 

If any dell, intel, or nvidia software also affect power settings you can go through those to disable that functionality.
