Hello, I have an i3-3220 and gtx960 as a GPU. Now I feel like my i3 is not catching up and I would like to upgrade it but I cant go and buy a whole new motherboard ram and CPU I need to stay with Ivy Bridge CPUs

If someone knows which CPU is right for me

I play overwatch, the binding of Isaac, and stardew valley and I stream The binding of Isaac would like to be able to stream overwatch but even on the lowest setting I can barely stay on 60 fps and sometimes it goes to 90 and then drop to 60 which feels like it went to 20 and then back up.

I have around 200$

Ty for reading {sorry for my bad grammar/ use in words}

Get something like i5 3570k oced it will run anything you want to used they cost less than 100€

We don't know if his motherboard allows for overclocking, it probably doesn't since he has a locked CPU. My recommendation is an i7-3770.

OP, next time try using a thread title that actually tells us what you need help with. A simple "help" is not enough, doesn't allow other people with a similar issue to find this thread through the search and people are less likely to help you overall.

2nd gen will work fine as well.

Also, Xeon E3 and E3 v2 are good place to look for, basically i7 of the same generation with varying clock speeds and lack of integrated graphics (not an issue when you have a graphics card) as long as the number after E3 is on or larger than 1230. Those with letters like L or T or S are best avoided, as their clock speeds are lower. Xeons are also cheaper. Dont get Xeon E3 v3 or later though, the socket is different.

In short: i7 2600, i7 3770, Xeon E3 1230 (up to Xeon E3 1290), Xeon E3 1230 v2 (up to Xeon E3 1290 v2) are all compatible and good for your build

Of course, if your mobo is Z77, Z68, Z75 or P67, then K chips are preferred, though not the i5s since streaming software really likes threads (more so on cores, but 4 cores is as much as you can get without a new mobo)

Before you upgrade the CPU though, make sure you update the BIOS to the latest stable version. Can prevent some compatiblity issues.
