980ti SLI or 1080ti/newer cards later on

NecroFlex

So i already have a 980ti and want to play in 4K, which one 980ti can barely handle properly. I was thinking of getting a used 980ti, saw one for ~350€, tho seeing that SLI isn't the best i also thought of selling mine and getting a 1080ti or waiting for the newer line of cards.

Any suggestions?

I'd say selling your current card and getting a single 1080ti or newer card is a better investment in the long run

I don't trust SLI personally, 1080 ti's are way too expensive right now but if you wait for the next generation to come out (supposedly soon-ish) then the price of the older ones will probably drop. You could also just try running in 1440p while you wait.

I'd go with 1080 Ti. Less graphic cards, less things to go wrong.

Given the games I play, id rather have two 980ti's. Better from a price point and a decent amount of performance increase. You could prolly be happy with a 1080ti as it would be better than a 980ti but still not a performer like one would suggest.

I wouldn't SLI older generation cards. Just seems like a bad investment to me. Unless you can get that second GTX 980Ti for super cheap, you could probably sell your current 980Ti for a decent sum and buy a 1080Ti for a slightly higher difference than if you bought the used 980Ti for ~350€.

However, if you're willing to stick with the 980Ti, and perhaps compromise a bit on graphics, I would honestly wait for Nvidia's next GPUs this late in the game.
