Hey

My PC has a core 2 duo E7300 in it, and it's supposed to be running at 2.66ghz, but in task manager it's base clock speed is reported as 2.4ghz, and even under full load, it doesn't go above 2.26ghz.

I thought about it thermal throttling, but it was 53°c max, which should be fine.

I didn't change anything in bios settings.

IDK why is it doing this.

Should I just see if I can overclock it back to base or something?

(Which may not even be supported by my motherboard.)

I would try to OC it to 2.66Ghz (it's not really an OC because it runs at stock speeds) and see if that helps.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

First, see if there is a setting in your Bios to keep it at its max turbo boost clock speed. Second, it won't  necessarily reach max speed unless it's under 100% load, and in that picture it is not. Try running a cpu benchmark or stress test that pins it at 100% for a sustained period of time and see if it reaches the 2.66 GHz

Okay, I realized that may not be the best screenshot ever, but I saw it happen.

What would be a point in asking for help and lying about such things?

Tap into the BIOS and check the FSB frequency and multiplier. They should be 266MHz and 10 respectively.

Except Core 2 CPUs dont have turbo boost. Turbo boost was introduced later, starting from Lynnfield i5s.

First - Core 2 Duo CPUs do not have a turbo boost mode.

Secondly, Task Manager is not a reliable tool for checking CPU frequency, often gives false values. Use CPU-Z.

Okay, I ran cinebench (117cb btw) with cpu-z open, and that showed the clock speed to be at 2.53ghz with a 9.5x multiplier, which is weird.

Apparently task manager is dumb, and the cpu almost works as intended.

It showed my i7-6700k at 5.1 GHz while actually it was overclocked to 4.7.

Just to add..

I've been finding that task manager is reporting the clock speed incorrectly for a while now.

Apparently my 4790k is running at 5.2ghz :P

I suggest using another program to monitor it.

hwinfo64 is a good one for this.
