amd Zen+ or wait for Zen 2

Hello,

I've used this forum to find help alot of time but this is my first time posting 

 

I have a pretty old CPU ( i5 2300 ) and now I finally saved some money and I'm looking to buy a new Ryzen cpu. The question is do I wait for 19th of April for Zen+ (2600x)  Optimization stage or do I wait even more for Zen 2 in Inflection stage? I want to build a good PC that will last me the next 5 years, I mostly use it for gaming and heavy softwares. If there is and Intel option that will be at better value I would like to know too.

Zen+ will probably do, unless you want to wait till Q2 2019

zen2 if you can wait a year (doubt you can with a sandy bridge, also probably only slight improvement gains)

12nm to 7nm would be slight improvement gains ?

6-7%?

i'd call that slight.. same as haswell -> skylake (skylake -> coffee lake 0% IPC gain, just stock speed / overclocking / cores)

I'd go with zen+, but might be worth waiting for reviews to decide for sure.

Zen 2 (2019) is rumored to have a 48 Core 96 Thread Epyc chip. What does this mean for you? The Epyc chip runs 4 of the Ryzen series dies in a MCM configuration. So you can extrapolate from that information that the Ryzen 3000 series should have a 12 Core 24 thread model coming out on 7nm(AM4), because 48 divided by 4 is 12. Clockspeeds on 7nm are also rumored by GloFo to hit up to 5Ghz compared to the 4.35Ghz for Zen+. That being said a 4.3Ghz 6 Core 12 Thread CPU is no joke. I suspect it should last a while. Even if it doesn't last 5 years you would still be able to slap in a Ryzen 3000 Series CPU in 4 years with the same MOBO, and RAM.  The decision is yours, but i don't feel that you can make a bad one here.

ok i guess i'll get 2600x when i comes out. Thank you guys! Are they going to release new MOBOs with the zen+, I mean the old ones will still work but newer --> better so what do you think. ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING is a good choice ?

They are indeed going to release new motherboards with the new release, they'll have the x470 chipset. May be a good idea to wait on reviews for boards once they release.
