Specs

ROG STRIX X370-F Gaming (motherboard)

Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR 4 2x8 gb (ram)

650 Power Supply (dont remember the brand)

980 GTX Ti (Graphics Card)

Ryzen 7 (CPU)

Windows 10 (OS)

Problem

Tested only on 2 games

CS GO - Freezes and after about 5-15 second delay, seems to get longer as I play but could be in my head. It will unfreeze and I can continue playing. Happens probably 10 minutes after starting the game.

Arma 3 - Freezes for what I believe is forever, waited roughly 30 seconds once then just task manager forced close. Happens within 5 minutes of starting the game. Occasionally on the main menu.

I can still alt tab and use my other monitor while the game is frozen but i cant minimize the games or anything.

Side information that MIGHT matter

I had a 8.1 window pc with lower specs. For my birthday we upgraded my pc. New CPU, Motherboard, Ram, and Hard drive. Along with Win 10. I installed everything, drivers and all. Games were crashing, then a blue sreen. After a day of different fixes we realized one of the ram was broken. So I ran the computer with 8 gb ram and it was a bit buggy in some games. It worked though. New ram comes in replace the 8gb 1 ram stick for 2 new ram sticks. reset my bios and got windows to recognize it was installed. Games are now freezing and crashing. We have switched the ram to A1 B1 instead of the recommended A2 B2 and it seems to be running the same. Windows 10 was corrupted from the faulty ram install, i couldnt install one of the drivers. So I did a fresh install of Windows 10, reinstalled nvidia drivers. Still isnt working. I tried some other fixes but gave up and now im here.

I have NOT tested with 1 ram stick yet, because I think it will work. I just want to get both sticks working.

so you're purposely avoiding the obvious diagnostic step because.......

we can't cast a magic spell that will repair your faulty rams sticks , figure out which one is faulty and replace it.

I dont think either ram is faulty, that is why. I feel like it is a software issue, not hardware. Im doing a memtest now. It hasnt blue screened with the new ram I installed so I don't thnk that is the issue.

This might sound like an old SS7 mobo manual but it might work

Are the sticks 2933, 3000 or 3200 MHz? Is XMP enabled?

If your answers were yes and yes, disable XMP and lower the speed to 2400.

Is the hard drive new or old?

If it's old defrag it and run a chkdsk.

Get an empty USB stick, use the v5.01 USB key installer, install and boot on it. Run memtest for at least one pass and note if there are any errors.

5 passes 0 errors

I think Windows is stopping games/programs that use more then 2200 mb of memory. Arma 3 always freeze once it starts pushin 22XX mb and it never goes above that. Just a theory right now. Is there anything with Windows 10 blocking ram usage or might effect this? Just a theory.

We learned our lesson. Always do the easy tests first :'( We really did want to believe we got a faulty stick 2 times in a row... but it happened. We got a fault stick 2 times in a row.

rounding error... either your vcore is too high or too low, if you're using auto voltage mode switch to manual and set it to 1.30v

set the memory voltage to 1.21v

are temps normal?

Temps were staying in the 45 range while doing the Prime95. We had CoreTemp up while we did it.
We figured out that it was what we were hoping it wasnt. It was ram again, we got a faulty stick of ram 2 times in a row. It was more stable then the first one we got.

Unless the error is for something else and we messed up our tests.
