Hey, I can use some help with a potential build to be used for 1080p gaming

i was thinking something like a i3 8100 and used gtx 970?

$500 USD budget

Either new and/or used parts are fine

I don’t need a case, hard drive, OS, or peripherals

Located near Los Angeles

i3 LOL it’s definitely not worth in 2018, get a e5-2670 sr0h8 from eBay (60-75$) and mobo 100-150$. Get a used gpu from apps like offer up, let go, or Facebook market, I recommend a 960-980 maybe even a 1050ti or a rx series if you can manage to get any of those on 4gb models bc the other 2gb ones would not be enough for 2018 triple A titles. And also search local for ram or use eBay. Get a 750w 80+ psu on amazon or eBay for like 30$. Also for the mobo it would be good to find a name brand one if you are wanting to upgrade on the x79 chipset but if not just get any huanan/Chinese motherboard because the cpu is locked anyways so you won’t be able to overclock and you can just turbo to 3.4ghz but the prices will vary depending on which parts you get so it would be like 450-500 (ps I am running this system with a e5 2670 ga-x79-ud5 and have it turboed to 3.4ghz with a gtx 960 4gb and have Fortnite running 1920x1080 on all epic and shadows off an post processing on low with 190 avg fps and the lowest I’ve dipped to was 160 and I run csgo 5v5 on 400 always and ffa dm I get like 300-400 with 12 ppl and gta I don’t dip under 120 fps on all high 1920x1080

Coffee I3s are quad cores, and are actually viable. The 2670 is a Sandy 8 core, but it has really slow cores, at 3,3GHz turbo. Even the 2600K struggles to keep up with even a Haswell I5, so an even slower CPU won't do any good. And you lose all options to upgrade, and to reuse the RAM. With X79, the highest end HEDT CPU is the 3960X, IIRC, with 6 cores.

So like an RX 460 4GB?

Recommending by brand is stupid, as all brands are equally capable of selling crap. And for $30, all you'll find are trash tier PSUs. Getting an actually decent $30 PSU new would make a lot more sense.
