Headphones

My next upgrade will be headphones. I'm currently deciding between the arctis 7 wireless and the audiotechnica m50x with a mod mic. Which would you choose and are there any other options for around 150?

I had the M40X with a mod mic and like it very much. I opted for the M40x as they are more mid range IMO but the M50s are kinda similar. Personally, I have used the mod mic and i just dont like it in front of my face so I went for a stand behind the monitor with a XLR mic.

If it's just for gaming I'd go for a Sennheiser Game Zero/One.

If you listen to music, I'd lean more towards the Audiotechnica's, but there's likely something better that @Legendarypoet might know.

I mostly game but after using the M40X and M50 as well as other high end ears, cant use my brothers HyperX clouds w/o noticeable difference. Also, not sure if this matters to you, but both with my Bose wireless in ears and my M40x they come as an after thought so I frequently forget to charge it.

M40X with Brainwavz Angled Pads and a Modmic, or SHP9500s and a Vmoda Boompro, or Status Audio CB-1s and the Boompro. Just anything but the M50X.

Whats so good about those specific pads. What is their texture? I can't stand cloth or similar textures and prefer a smooth leathery feel simmilar to the ones I have now(hyperx stinger). Also is there a big diffrence between modmic 4 and 5?

The pads are very soft and they are leather. Not a massive difference between the 4 and 5. But obviously the 5 is better.

No, they're not.

The non special edition ones are only $7 more than the budget you laid out.

I'd personally go with something that doesn't involve multiple cables, but that's more of a personal preference.

If you have to have a legit headset it’s not a bad option. I am not a huge fan of the Modmic because of the 2 wires. I’d take the CB-1 to get the Vmoda Boompro, that plugs into the headphones so there is one wire.

What do you think of this mic. I will probably get a new one (blue snowball) so it won't be connected to the headset just not right away.

It’s fine. It will work to hold you over. Just be sure if you get the M40Xs you get the Brainwavz angled pads. They aren’t even worth considering without the pads.

They are 100% required. Not just for comfort, but for sound. Pads make a huge difference in the sound of a headphone.

I absolutely have to recommend the ATH-M50x. For the price, these are incredible. I've tested a lot of headphones from $20 all the way up to $500, and I still recommend this because of the price/quality ratio.

I wear mine about 10h a day since 2015.

I'm a music producer and I also use them for producing, mixing and even mastering. :)

If you want a real headset, that’s not bad. I’d still take the M40Xs though.
