Recently got the Massdrop 34" Ultrawide monitor. (yay!)

However, I always thought my MSI 560TI TwinFrozr has a Mini-DP for output but it was only a mini-hdmi. The mini HDMI (dont know which revision) can only drive 3440x1440 @ 30Hz.

This has been causing lag even for mouse movements and video/audio sync issue.

With the recent price surge for graphics card, I am not really keen on buying a new video card right now. So I am looking to find an interim option to drive the monitor at 60Hz or higher.

I know that USB-C on laptops can run in DisplayPort mode. My motherboard ASUS Z170-E motherboard has a USB-C 3.1 port.

Can I use that and get a DP adapter to drive the monitor 3440x1440 @ 60Hz?

If yes, will it be drive through the HD530 from my 6700K or the dedicated GPU?

Thanks

I believe the board supports the DP alt mode. However, it will not be running off your graphics card, it will be running off the integrated graphics on your 6700K, so if you're wanting to game on the monitor, you're not going to have a great time.

Any way to confirm the DP alt mode for the ASUS Z170-E? Just went through the manual and it doesnt say anything. The adapters are not cheap so I want to make sure I can take advantage of it before getting one.

As for the integrated graphics, I am fine for the time being. It is not like the 560Ti can drive many titles at the current res.
