If you want to water cool it all you have to do is take off the cooler by taking off a few screws and then put on the water block.

I mean... Technically you "could" run it with no cooler.... It is just about the worst idea ever, and wouldn't run for long... But you "could".

when i installed my gpu cooler i accidentally used the wrong spacers. Idle temp was 50 C

A long long time ago they didn't have coolers

There's a Matrox Mystique 220 from 1997, it's the newest I could think of off the top of my head without any passive heatsinks or anything. All the pins and such are for different types of upgrades, like memory or a TV tuner.

Yes if it's an old gfx card.

What you see in the picture is an FC Terminal from EKWaterBlocks that is used to connect multiple VGA waterblocks in one water cooling loop.

If you have those spare coolers you took of to put the water blocks on I would love to buy one.

Nothing to see here - move along.

It's perfectly possible, most integrated cirsuits run without coolers. As long as you manage to keep the IC in question within it's thermal operating range, it doesn't matter how you cool it. Now, GPU's nowadays consume so much power that there is no alternative to a water or air cooler to make them run within spec.
