EVGA 980ti Fire

Hello,

 

I thought I would post some pics of my Evga SC 980ti that caught fire a few weeks ago. The card was originally purchased in October 2015 and was running fine until it kept crashing when I started gaming one morning.  I then heard a sizzling sound and the PSU cut power to my PC. Just was well since smoke was pouring out of the Graphics Card. 

 

I contacted EVGA Europe who were not entirely helpful (they spent a week asking me to register the card when I already registered it) and three weeks later provided another 980ti which I sold on to a friend. I could not wait for EVGA to get their act together so I purchased a ASUS 1080 Strix. 

 

There seem to be an increasing amount of threads reporting EVGA 980's and 980ti's going China Syndrome..........

 

Not bashing EVGA but their excellent customer service seems limited to North America.

I'm not sure why you think their service is bad, they gave you a new card after more than 2 years and in less than a month. Ofc it's not fast but I don't see the problem.

Because it was so damn slow and it incredibly frustrating having to tell customer service for a week that you already registered the product and being asked again and again. 

 

I could not wait the best part of a month without my PC (which I also use for work) so had no choice to purchase a new card during the worst possible time during the current shortage.

It's probably slow because they don't have stock of GPUs so they had to ship them in from somewhere. I would be happy as the warranty is almost up on that card

In North America they probably do. My Rampage 5 Extreme is the best motherboard I have worked with, 2 years and its not caught fire once

Dude, having a new card shipped to you in less than a month is pretty much the best you can expect from ANY company. If anything, most companies would be a LOT slower.

 

Hell, most companies would do like this:

- wait one week to respond to you in the first place

- Ask you to register it, wait another week for a response after that

- have you ship the card to them, taking about 3 weeks until they acknowledge they received it

- have them "inspect" it for another week

- Issue you a shipment for a new card, which may or may not be in stock

- then take another week or two to actually ship you a new card.

 

So I am counting about 9 weeks for a typical process if customer service is bad.

 

And you are complaining about 3 weeks??? You don't know what the hell you are talking about!

I am not blindly brand loyal.  EVGA has earned my loyalty 100% by the way I have been treated over the years.  I'm sorry your experience was less than ideal.

Haven’t had issues with any card except an Nvidia and it was as simple as taking it to Best Buy for a swap. I tend not to break stuff so no need for support. I prefer companies for their products not support.
