Help me diagnose a problem

Go to solution Solved by Hiitchy,

Did you try using DDU? Usually I would recommend it in cases like this where there are driver issues.

So yesterday I took out my Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming to test my friend's graphics card (Hall of Fame 980Ti) he just bought (to see if the card actually works) and obviously I had to boot up, install new drivers etc but since I reinstalled my 960 and 960 drivers my PC has had nothing but problems. I attached a video to this thread to show you what exactly happens when I experience these freezing moments. When the HDD light goes off it makes a noise something like when a vinyl scratches and the light turns off, when that noise happens my entire PC freezes and my audio cuts out briefly and sometimes doesn't come back until a restart. It's important to note that my OS drive is not a hard drive however, it's an SSD so it shouldn't be making any mechanical noises obviously I have two other hard drives in my machine (1TB and 500GB).

Any opinions or possible solutions are appreciated guys, I'm currently reinstalling GTX drivers again.

Apologies if you guys cant understand anything I sent this to a friend and had no intentions to upload online, you may need to turn your sound up a little to hear the noise when I stop speaking.

Il be honest, it was really hard to hear any noisei n the video, i heared somthign but not enough to be able to iddentify the type of noise it was.

My guess, you may have some dust or dirt causing a minor short somewhere. Though when thsi usualy happens a PC will simply shut off , so maybe it isnt that.

The other type of noise i can think of, since u mentioned audio stopping, is the audio hardware relays that protect speakers from the initial surge (thump) from a audio output device from damaging your speakers. My Asus Xonar D2X has veyr loud Audio relays that clock during startup, and sometimes when the audio drivers hangs and has to reset for somthing, like starting up some games as it detects nand configures audio.

If its audio relays clicking then its likely not the cause, but rather the effect.

other than that , i would agree just try DDU, which u r .

Thanks, I'll let everyone know if anything changes, a good thing to mention would also be that I'm not using onboard audio, I'm using an external DAC however I know it's not the problem.

at this point I'm almost 100% certain it's my hard drive, just in case anybody wants to see, below are screenshots of my drive usage during playing GTA.

Disk 0 is my SSD and its only purpose is for my Operating System.

Disk 1 is my ShadowPlay drive that holds nothing but my shadowplay temp files, shadowplay videos etc.

Disk 2 however is the drive my games are all on and the drive GTA loads from, while speeding through the streets of Los Santos the noise was happening more and more increasingly, I think I made have knocked my drive and basically killed it by damaging it, I'll take it out now and let you guys know.

The sharp spikes were moments the noise happened that I told you all about in the post.
