Chrome using too much resources

so my chrome has started to open on startup and its causing my computer to slow down dramatically as it is using most of my disk and a high level of cpu in task manager .

does anyone know how to solve these issues?

attatched is a screenshot of my task manager.

the chrome open in thee screenshot had 2 tabs open when it stared up.

Do you have any Chrome extensions you have recently installed? There has also been malware used to mine cryptocurrency going around that uses a decent amount of resources so that may be a possibility too, especially since many are browser-based. Worth doing a scan with Malwarebytes and a reputable anti virus such as Comodo if you haven't already.

3.8 mb/s causes 100% disk usage? the hell? what kind of disk are you even running that has such slow speeds?

i havent installed anything or tried to mine anything either

You wouldn't have had to mine before - the malware doing it without your permission could have come from any number of sources.

 

I'm not saying it is definitely malware, but I would treat it with suspicion as Chrome certainly isn't a browser you'd expect to strain your PC without any extensions installed.

 

I'd run some anti virus scans like I suggested - at least that would give you peace of mind there isn't dodgy software running anyway.

oh i see. Switch browser for now or just reinstall/scan pc, as suggested.
