Windows media repair is kind of a joke.  I don't know of any legitimate problem that has ever fixed.  All I get is "Windows was unable to repair the problem"

If you don't have a backup, try a fresh install.  I do highly suggest getting a backup solution.  It's saved me hours of hassle and is kind of a worry-free testing solution.

What version of windows are you running?  if win 10, the product key SHOULD be associated with your MS account and you shouldn't need a key when re-installing.  It will prompt you for a key, just click "I don't have a key" and when windows first boots, it will connect online and retrieve your stored key

also, if you aren't sure, and you have another hard drive you can install (so you can keep your current installation as a fallback if necessary)  do a re-install on a separate hard drive.  That way, also, you can always retrieve files from your old install if you need to
