Ok, I'm looking for a racing wheel setup to run with my new Oculus rift, which honestly I wasn't the biggest fan of racing Sims until I got a VR headset and it makes all the difference, especially since I love driving irl. So my question, I have an old Xbox 360 racing wheel, the wireless one with force feedback, is it worth it upgrading to a 100-150 dollar wheel or will the old throwback hold up well to saving up for something beefier. I do plan on building a racing sled when I move places here in a month, have an old Cooper bucket seat that I can bolt onto a 2x4 setup. Irl I'm a manual fanatic so I'd love something with a stick shift but I'm not looking to spend 500+ on a setup.

Tldr: sorry for the wall of text, just looking for good, inexpensive racing wheel recommendations

most wheels these days do not bundle with a shifter. the logitech g27 used to but with the g29 models the shifter is separate.

if you want a nice, balanced wheel with great feel the Thrustmaster T300RS is pretty good. you can expand it to have a shifter or better pedals

or pick up Fanatec for better hardware and ecosystem

Just use the old controller, the prices on new ones are ABSOLUTELY absurd. Logitech price fixes their wheels because they know no other company makes ones with as many features. They're worth about 1/3 or less of what they cost.

Thank you for the responses! Final question then, is it recommended to stay away from used deals on higher quality racing wheels? I'm fine with going used but I don't know how the force feedback holds up, I can replace the material on steering wheel but I don't want to drop money on one just to have to replace a motor or gears or have the sensors going bad.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update, went with the thrustmaster T300 RS GT, the one with 3 pedals, and an extremely happy with it, hits the nice medium between Logitech and fanatec it seems, less expensive, quality, although not fanatec quality, and a semi robust ecosystem. Thank you everyone for your help!
