New gaming setup

my cart has a computer has a i5 6700k with a gtx 980 ti with 8gb or ram, which the whole pc adds up to about $1000, but my budget is $1250 i want to add rgb in it, but the thing is, i also want to get  144hz monitor with a mechanical keyboard and i want them to be rgb. should i spend more money on rgb parts for the pc, or should i spend more on the rgb on the peripherals?

For a $1,000 build, you should have 16Gb of RAM instead of just 8.

 

I would say balance it so you've got a good PC that you can deck out with RGB in the future, and get better peripherals to start with.

You're building a new one?

For starters, I wouldn't be paying that much for old tech. You can get a much better system for less.

RGB does nothing for your PC. I'd focus on getting quality parts first, add RGB later.

well the thing is, my computer is 10 years old and im about to finally get a new one, and the one that i have now isnt even a gaming pc, its a old hp touchsmart, and for the peripherals, could i get a cheap rgb keyboard without mechanical switches, or should i get a non rgb keyboad with mechanical switches

Depends which you want more. I'd go with a mechanical keyboard, but you'd need to test the different switches to see which one you'd like; there's really no amount of research that will give you your answer.

 

If you live in the US or Canada, check out the Reddit Hardware Swap for a decent deal on a graphics card; you should be able to pick up a GTX 980/Ti for around $350 or less. From there, grab new parts. I'd aim for at least an Intel i5 8400, 16GB of RAM, and depending on your budget, a large SSD or small SSD and HDD. Here's an example of a mostly new build. A little over budget, but decent:

Yeah it looks nice, but I don't think it's worth the trade offs. Logitech has pretty nice lighting as well.

i dont like logitech's rgb because it only shines through the keycaps and doesnt have a rubber backplate
