Hi everyone, I'm currently running an I7-6700K on an ASUS Maximus VIII Hero Alpha with a 250 gb 960 evo as a boot drive and a 1 tb WD Black HDD for my steam library. I've recently learned of Intel RST and understand it to be a better performer than a SSHD due to the larger cache available (64 gb max vs 8 gb). I understand that I can't partition 64 gb of cache from my boot drive for this (please correct me if I'm wrong since this would save me from buying another SSD). My question is, if I purchased a 128 gb SSD and a second 1 tb HDD, can I split the SSD into two 64 gb halves (one for each HDD using RST) and then run the system in raid 0? I imagine it to be similar to running a 2 X SSHD setup in raid 0. I am trying to get the best bang for the buck to increase load times in games while also increasing my storage space. Not looking for a large SSD. Below are the options I'm considering. Thanks in advance!

-1 X 128 gb SSD (separated into 2 X 64 gb RST caches) + 2 X 1 tb HDD = (64 gb SSD cache + 1 tb HDD) X 2 in raid 0

-1 SSD + 2 X 1 tb HDD in raid 0 before caching with Intel RST = 64 gb SSD cache + (2 tb HDD raid 0)

-1 SSD + 2 tb HDD = 64 gb SSD cache + 2 tb HDD

-2 tb SSHD (Seagate Firecuda)

-2 X 1 tb SSHD in raid 0

Id stay away from rst. If you want caching in windows use storage spaces tiering. Then you can have as big of a ssd and hdd as you want and cache a hdd raid. Generally you shouldn't use mother board raid.

If you want a faster drive, id get a bigger drive, like a 4tb as any 4tb is faster than your 1tb wdblack.
