I'm looking to upgrade to: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LMBHxG

the graphics card will be a 1050 until I can afford and/or find a 1070 or 1080, everything else will be as listed on the pcpartpicker page, the mobo might be shifted out for a MSI B250 Gaming Pro Carbon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7PFH75/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2Q57CDDD1FSCK&colid=H5X1XJRKFPKU&psc=1) instead of whats listed

My current rig is a AMD Athlon II X2 245, PNY Geforce 630 2GB, 6GB Ram, Cooler Master HAF 922 case (listed in pcpartpicker list) 4 hard drives totaling just about 1.25TB (2 are 500GB and the other 2 are 160GB)

all in all, is the current selected upgrades worth it?

what would the price difference be like? better for 2x8?

you would probaly save around $20 give or take on which kit you get.  But you also get future expansion to 32gb of ram

my big concern with the 8400 would be that the mother board being already set for the 6th/7th gen i3/i5/i7 and if I need to flash the bios I wont have a spare available to use

the 8400 uses an entirely different chipset, no need to flash the bios.
