set the voltage and timings according to what the ram is rated for, manually

ive tried that, mobo is rated for 4000mhz, tried both 4000mhz and ram speed of 4266, wont hit windows =/

Good luck. You know that you need to win CPU IMC silicon lottery to be able to use such RAM speeds on daily basis?

Bump up System Agent voltage.

is 3900mhz a decent silicon win? i got it to 3900mhz 15-15-15-36?

If it is 100% stable then yes.

Which RAM kit do you have exactly?

Damn, Corsair does not list the motherboards like G.Skill for compatibility.

These high speed kits are usually validated just for 1-2... maybe 3 specific motherboards at most with binned CPU.

So CL15 3900MHz is actually a damn good result if you have not tweaked the CPU IMC settings in BIOS.

that's just not how this works. the XMP isn't a guaranteed OC. they might be able to run it at that speed when they make it but your system won't always be able to. motherboard is a factor and CPU's memory controller too. those speeds are generally unrealistic and don't gain you anything anyway. it's literally just for bragging rights. you can say you have the fastest ram and they will say they sell the fastest kit on the market.

on top of that the timings they are sold at are looser than what you would be able to get the kits to work at manually. just like nobody recommends to use automatic motherboard OC for CPU (because it's actually terrible and damaging in some cases) well people shouldn't recommend XMP, except ram is much more complicated to OC than CPU and XMP is normalized enough that it's actually not damaging to the hardware itself. simply not the best performance you could pull out of it.

Careful with System Agent Voltage (VCCSA), 1.35V is the absolute max and any more will damage the lifespan of the memory controller really fast.

Just out of interest are you both overclocking RAM and CPU at the same time and having issues

no i do one at a time, cpu is currently on stock with mce disabled
