When does "slaving" make sense?

When I have a couple of builds done, I'm interested in combining them together for more options, but at this point, I don't really know what I'm doing. What kinds of benefits are there to slaving out a computer? Thank you in advance!

Using one pc to control another pc, and if I understand right, the power of both are combined into a machine more powerful than the sum of its parts, but in all honesty, I'm very new to this sort of thing, and don't completely understand the potential.

He could very well mean Master/Slave which is a computing term.

PATA IDE Harddrives actually had master/slave switches on them for stuff like this.

That was for determining which drive was first and which was second... Not really relevant to render servers.

true, the concept is basically the same though.  master still controlled the slave drives. it was because they were connected with the same cable, so it had to be determined which was the controller.

 

it was mostly just a more known reference to the term in computing. im betting most of our forum members have never seen an IDE drive...

That's called distributed rendering and if you didn't know what that was previously then there is literally 0 reason for you to care about it.

This is not the same as using a desktop remotely.

 Teamviewer, splashtop would work for that.

Chrome remote desktop is the easy way of using your computer remotely.

Teamviewer is also a good option that a lot of people use but requires more setup and learning.
