In that case, unless you want to remote into the server and do the editing directly on there (not ideal, especially for audio and image quality), you would be better off with a more powerful mobile device to edit directly on.

I'm building a smaller pc for traveling, and was hoping I can use it to access the more powerful home pc, and somehow use the extra horsepower of my home pc for projects

That's called distributed rendering and if you didn't know what that was previously then there is literally 0 reason for you to care about it.

This is not the same as using a desktop remotely.

Yes, using my home desktop remotely is exactly what I have in mind. That would be awesome.

Teamviewer is also a good option that a lot of people use but requires more setup and learning.

I forgot to mention, I'm also building a NAS to be used with FreeNas, I think that will open up some more possibilities for remote workflow
