Hello Guys I want to know what are your picks for routers in 2018. I recently need to ditch my current ISP router and wanted to know really whats out there. After a bit of research I still came back undesired. I am looking for a few things.

This Router Needs to work Well with my Plex server Primarily.

  1. Has to be PPPoE compatible
  2. Prefer Wireless AC
  3. Has to have manageable design for utilities like Port Forwarding.
  4. No Price Range but cost effective.
  5. Gig connections.

After A while of searching I came up with the

Linksys WRT1900ACS: Good Overall

Asus AC2900: Hits what I need but on the fence about it.

Let me know your thoughts!!

No matter what "good" router you get and unless it is ASUSWRT(Merlin) or third party capable like the WRT1900ACS you won't get the full potential of the router especially with Port Forwarding and triggering and not to mention writing you own iptables. The 1900ACS is a very good option. Some TP-Link Archer line is good too, especially with third party firmware.

Stay away from Trendnet and Buffalo, they offer more problems than needed with the current course the company has taken.

I personally own a TP-Link Archer C9, using stock firmware, and it's a very solid router.

I also have used the Archer C7 (Fiancee's mother bought one on my advice) and it's also great. The C9 has better WIFI range, but both offer fairly good range, and excellent value.

Honestly, if something like a C9 won't do, you're better off jumping into the Prosumer Market with a Ubiquiti Edge Router + Unifi AP, or similar solution from a different brand.
