these are good for very small deployments, i believe they utilize the motherboard USB header, effectively they are a USB flash drive, useful for servers etc where you can boot from a USB stick but not require an external dongle (eg think unraid, without the risk of "woops i just caught the usb stick and ripped it out of the socket" deployments :p)

 

some servers for example (we have multiple Vmware servers, which have an SD slot on the motherboard, which you can use to install the vmware OS and not worry about having big physical storage)

 

At least thats what i would use these for.
