CableMods Question

I plan on getting the Black/Red Full Cable Kit for my RM850i PSU but they don’t state what gauge wire they use, cause I wanna purchase some nice black combs for the cables but CableMods only supplies transparent combs.

They use standard 18 AWG, it still varies however from different manufactures due to insulation and sleeving thickness.

E22 has black cable comb options. @CableMod is there a specific size you suggest for the cable combs, I'm thinking ~4mm?

I love these style of cable combs CableMods has them in one of their bundles but doesn’t sell them separately

@xovague Performance-PCs actually makes several colored comb options that you can check out here:

I'm not too sure though if they would be compatible with 4mm thick cables though so you would want to check with their support team.

I know for the PET stuff it shouldn't have any trouble as I measured it out to be around jut over 3mm but not sure about paracord and the other stuff.

My favorite would have to be the aluminum ones from MNPC tech, I've actuallly made some like this in plastic but haven't gotten access to a CNC to mill some myself.

@xovague if you're getting the ModFlex kit then go with the size A black combs PPCS makes, these ones here:

Otherwise we don't sell the closed combs we make separately as they are a fit to the pro series kits only.

@CableMod Only thing with those combs is they leave a decent space in the middle of the cables, do you know any other places that sell similar to the Pro combs that will fit the Flex?

You can get closed versions but your going to have to order the cable with the combs installed as those kinds need to be threaded through during installation. The ones linked early would allow you to add them to the cable after the fact.

@CableMod wouldn't these work? https://www.ensourced.net/black-3d-printed-wire-wrap/ I just have to make a cut into the plastic to insert the cable I just don't know weather to choose the 16 or 18 guage

@xovague not sure if those would work honestly - haven't really tried anything outside of what we offer admittedly. Our cables are 18 AWG though.

CableMod PET is right at 3.2mm mark with Paracord at 3mm mark. They do not work with most CableCombs including MNPCTech and Icemodz style combs. I have fully tested them, they are way to lose and they slip around.

you should be de-pinning them, not cutting through the combs.

 

Those are designed for Paracord 550, CableMod paracord is much thinner.

All CableMod is 18 AWG which is two gauges smaller then what most stock cables are now of days(16 AWG). Why not just go with Ensource.net instead? Instead of looking high and low for combs that might work with there cables.
