Sea of Thieves Specs

Dear all,

I would like to talk about the specs required to play this game! I'm super excited for this game and found this chart online. Now, I'm playing on a 1440p monitor and I am currently gaming on a GTX 970, ouch yes I know. I am looking for an upgrade and I'm wondering whether or not a GTX 1080 is powerful enough to run this game at 1440p @ 60fps.

you have the chart right in front of you... why do you need to ask..?

How do Reavers clean their spears?

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.

Hey mister, if you look again at the chart, you will conclude that 1440p is not in there. Thanks!

But I do not mind to break the bank ;). I do not think a 980ti can run this game @ 1440p 60fps, right?

im aware, but you could infer based on the fact that if a 770 can do 1080p@60 and a 1070 can do 4k@30,  then yes, a 1080 will do fine at 1440@60.  use common sense jesus christ.

also, this chart is all anybody else has since the game isnt out yet.  so any answer you get is going to be based on guessing after looking at that chart.

980ti can do 4k@30 so it will manage 1440 just fine

It can, it's on par with the GTX 1070. Probably at medium settings though.

That's a bit more than common sense tbh. Needs knowledge on cards' performance as well which I'm sure schools nowadays dont teach.

Thank you, both for your reply! I will go for the 1080 then. And yes, I agree with Jurrunio. Most of us have no experience with any other graphics cards than we currently got, so it is hard to speculate which graphics card we need. That is why we are on this forum ;)

i disagree.  nvidia has their cards labeled in a way that makes it easy to figure out their comparative performance. 1060 > 1070 > 1070ti > 1080 > 1080ti

if a lower end card(comparatively) can perform at a higher display, (1070 at 4k) then a higher end card will be able to perform at a lower display (1080 at 1440).

while they dont use graphics cards,  they DO teach this in school, my daughter is 14 and is learning this same principal.  it should be common sense.  its being able to infer and extrapolate from a given data set.

It's 1070 at 4K 30Hz, which gives no direct comparison to 1440p 60Hz. Refresh rate and resolution are both different. You cant solve algebra with two unknown when there's only 1 equation.

4k is 4 times the pixel density of 1080p, 30fps is half of 60fps.(and they are talking frame rate, not refresh rate in the picture)

1440p is 1.7 times the pixel density of 1080p

its not a direct comparison, no.  but using the known factors, you can extrapolate that you would be able to run 1440p@60fps on ultra graphics using a GTX1080.

itll work fine.

Except the affect on resolution to frame rate isnt linear. Different games have different scaling.

I'd assume something between 1080 and the 4k 30, you SHOULD be fine but that game is not out yet. Probblay a 1070Ti or 980 would do you good.
