I took 8gb out of my 2x8gb from my personal when I created my FreeNAS. But now I need the 8GB back.

My motherboard is an Asrock Z370M-ITX/a.c.

It doesn't support ECC RAM but it has dual gigabit which is why I bought it.

I ebay'd up "4gb ddr4 dimm" and chose the cheapest one. It says it' 2400T speed I don't know what what the T after the 2400 means. However, does this fit/work on my motherboard?

Registered ECC RAM will ONLY work with sever boards. Being Registered makes it certain it won't work where other ECC RAM might.

Black Knight-

Ryzen 5 5600, GIGABYTE B550M DS3H, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Asrock RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming,

Seasonic Focus GM 750, Samsung EVO 860 EVO SSD M.2, Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe, Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon

Daughter's Rig;

MSI B450 A Pro, Ryzen 5 3600x, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Silicon Power A55 512GB SSD, Gigabyte RX 5700 Gaming OC, Corsair CX430

OH that I did not know that there where 2 different types of ECC.

I also thought ECC memory would just run as non-ECC mode in non-compatible MBs.

But according to your statement. Is it rare for unregistered ECC to not work on non-compatible MBs or is that pretty normal?

I'm pretty sure unregistered ECC will not work if:

a) the motherboard doesn't support it

b) the CPU doesn't support it

c) all of the above

Oh the cpu supports ECC but the motherboard doesn't. It's an i3-8100. Will unreg ecc work from this?

I wouldn't expect it to boot with any kind of ECC memory installed. If you already have the memory, it's worth a try IMO.

I dont have the memory yet. I'm looking to buy a cheap 4GB DDR4 even if the speed is low as it's only going to be going into the FREENAS machine so it doesn't really matter.

I just don' wanna be spending 55+ for a 4gb 2400 from Amazon, etc.

I'll have to keep looking for regular DIMM on the cheap.

Thanks guys.

Hit up Craigslist, see what you can find.
