Issues with New Computer

Greetings,

My son put together a new rig using an ASUS Maximus X Formula, 8700K I7. Issue is that computer locks up randomly after use. In order to recover we have to re-flash the bios. 

Whats been done so far:

1) All drivers are up to date. Bios is the most current. Problem exists with previous version as well as the latest one.

2) Memory is corsair Vengeance LPX 33GB DDR4 2400MhZ (PC4-19200 C14)

2) Memory has been checked and double checked with windows mem checker and Memtest 86

3) Computer is all new. Power Supply is Seasonic Ultra 850W

4) OS is Windows Pro 64 Bit.

5) System is NOT overclocked. It will be eventually but we are the most stable settings.

6) Used the Mem button to let the motherboard find the best settings for the memory.

7) System is running a Noctua CPU fan. Temps are spot on as measured with laser temp and on board.

Any ideas  would be apperciated. Currently thinking the MB is broke but still open to suggestions.

It seems like you've done almost everything.

 

Are you sure a BIOS reflash is needed to recover? does clearing CMOS work instead?

Maybe it's a strange OS/Driver issue -- have you tried nuking the SSD and starting over?

re flash the bios? That's an odd way to have to fix something...

 

Does it happen while CPU is under load or just randomly?

 

Does it not get fixed if you power off the psu and clear cmos?

 

If none of this fixes it and only reflashing bios does, you probably need to RMA the board.

Have you pulled all the RAM and reseateed it?

I know at least one of the tech reviewers had trouble with his 8700k as a result of the default bios settings enabling an overclock. What it did was default the all core turbo to the same frequency as the single core when the setting was to "automatic". It may have been Jayztwocents but I'm not sure.
