Hellooo,

I've bought my first SSD ever and would like to get some advice before installing it.

Before I bought it I heard to max out the lifetime of a SSD its important to install it right.

I would like to use it for my games only. So my first question is, should I install my OS on the SSD or should I install games only on it?

Secondly, is there any software for crucial SSD to enhance the lifetime? I heard Samsung has one at least.

And last one, will it be detected after putting it into my computer or do I have to do something in the BIOS or so???

Thank you very much in advance!!!!

Plug and play.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

the OS should definable go on the SSD. Use the space that's left as you please.

It really doesn't matter what you install on it. Chances are, this ssd will live on for you for the next 5 to 10 years, maybe more if you have less read/write cycles. And BIOS should automatically detect it

print "Hello World!" ("Hello World!")

A fresh install is recommended but not necessary, there are some free tools that allow you to do you a 1:1 copy of your current hdd with the OS on it. It works perfectly, i used the samsung software from their site, it's free and works with other brands as i'm told.

Ah so I'd rather install fresh.

So I just install it and what about the windows on the HDD that is inside right now? Can I use this HDD then as usuall?

You definitely want your OS on your SSD, preferable your games too. It just makes so much of a difference. I started out my system with a 256GB SSD, but recently added another 500GB just for games. I would recommend a clean install of your OS on your SSD. Do not forget to back up ;)

While doing a clean install of your OS on your new SSD, you can wipe the OS on your HHD.

Think of it like this: Put the software you use the most on the SSD. Since you use Windows 100% of the time, it only makes sense to do a fresh install on the SSD, then like ASUS Killer said, follow those steps to clean up the old HD and you've got a media/image storage drive.

It makes the most sense to put your OS on the SSD. That's what everyone does.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

So when I put in the SSD and install windows on it how can I delete windows from the HDD that's right now in? Is there any easy way to delete all files from it? And if so Will my second HDD also be empty after installing windows? I do not want to clean my second HDD. Thanks in advance

Update:

I've removed the boot files and made it bootable again with the Microsoft tool.

The commands I used before in Diskpart:

List Disk

Select Disk X //X = Number of Disk

Clean

Create Partition Primary

Active

format fs=ntfs quick

assign

exit

Update 2:

New Error Message like this:

"Windows can only be used on EFI Systems with GPT Harddrives. The used harddrive has a MBR partition"
