Next CPU for future Graphics card?

I recently bought the GTX 1060 over Christmas and just sold it earning a solid $100 thanks to GPU prices soaring during January. Owning the 1060 for a short time, I realized that the card was great however with more advanced titles like Assassin Creed Origins even in 1080p the card was starting to struggle hitting 60fps on high. Which is why I plan on waiting for next generation GPU from Nvidia or a better card when prices drop, but for the mean time I was wondering if my CPU is starting to become a bottleneck when looking into these higher ends cards? I currently have an intel core i5 6600 which I like but after seeing this sale https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113429&cm_sp=Homepage_FDD-_-P3_19-113-429-_-02052018 I was wondering if maybe I should look into upgrading. I kinda want to get Ryzen but would love to here you guys thoughts, I might go for something like the 1600x but not for sure. If I stuck with Intel, I wouldn't have to worry about getting a new motherboard (unless I'm misunderstanding) so I'm honestly torn on what to do next or if I should even get a new CPU at all.

If you were update your BIOS, you could upgrade to the 7700k, which will be the best you can do for gaming without swapping your motherboard...
