I’m trying to build my first computer and I need a lot of help. I’ve never done anything like this before and I don’t know where to start beside a case. I know what I want out of it and that’s to play pc games and try to stream on twitch. I’ve been using a laptop to do that and I can tell it’s not helping at all. I have a I7 5500 cpu 12gb of ram and a GTX 840m in the laptop. I’m looking to spend around $700-$1,000 USD (I live in Illinois in the US) to build something I don’t know much about building a pc and what it would take to do what I want and for it to work smoothly. This is the case that I’ve been looking at and wanting to build around.

I've watched a lot of Linus tech tips videos of builds but I have no idea what I’ll need. I’m hoping that you guys and gals might be able to help me pick out the stuff I’ll need and end up with a killer rig.

thank you

Bobby

I would highly recommend holding off right now with all the crypto mining going on. At the very least wait for Raven Ridge for desktop. As a decent build for that price today isn't worth it :(

Right now because of inflated memory and GPU prices you would be better off buying pre-built.

I probably won’t be building or buying parts for a few months or maybe longer. I’m just trying to hammer out what would be a good setup to start with that has the room for improvement. Thank you for letting me know thought. I really  appreciate it.

Yup, its probably better value to buy a prebuilt at the mo. Its a good place to start too to be fair. You get to game out the box and you have years ahead of you to work out what does what and upgrade your prebuilt.

If you are trying to price things out at MSRP so you can get an idea of what SHOULD be in your budget or what things should be priced at, try using NZXT's website with their builder service (BLDR or something like that). They use all MSRP in their pricing so you should be able to map out a build thats in your budget, then post it here. From there this lovely community will tweak it so you get the best bang for your buck!

Thank you. I’ll try that. I was mainly just trying to find out the parts I would need for a build rather than the cost.
