Hey i gotta ask you something guys. So basically 14 days ago I put my prebuilt hp system that i put a gtx 1060 inside it and the repair shop said that some parts were fried on my msi kaili 7826 ver 1.0 . So i was wondering if the graphics card fried some of the parts. And also the rapair shop says that i will have to use integrated graphics on my computer from now on but i think otherwise because my computer worked for one month

.

i don't understand...

you have a prebuilt system that you put a gpu into, it broke, and you took it to a shop,

they "repaired" the mobo, but took the gpu out?

did they give you the gpu that they took out?

I agree with @firelighter487, the story doesn't add up. Motherboards aren't exactly the easiest of components to repair, and are typically easier and cheaper to simply replace....... This is not to mention that components these days are extremely resilient.

They didn't say that they took the gpu out they just said that i might have to use integrated graphics because the gpu was I guess too much for the mobo but it's all just confusing to me because the motherboard has a pcie 3.0 x16 slot and the previous gpu that i took out was inside it.

well unless a capacitor blew or something. you can replace those quite easily if you know what you're doing...

How many people out there know what they are doing to that extent, and I can't think of a situation where a blown motherboard capacitor would kill the use of a graphics card.

that's true, but you said that it's very unlikely it's a viable option to "repair" a mobo. but if it's a capacitor, it's really easy to fix.

Exactly what was going on with the computer after you installed the 1060?

If they cannot repair your pc, they should return the pc in one piece.

Be careful as they may swap your working GTX with a non functioning one.

A GTX 1060 is worth $400 used. Check back the GPU, make sure it's yours.

A properly installed GPU won't fry the motherboard.

An incident where you might place it in the wrong slot is impossible, as it only be plugged in pcie slot.

So your gpu should be intact. The motherboard pcie slot maybe broken.

This is a logical explanation, but newer GPU would draw lesser power consumption than previous generations, a GTX 1060 is relatively low in power demand.

If your motherboard has pcie 3.0 it definitely should work. GTX 1060 will work in pcie 2.0 and above.

And if you forgot to plug a pci-power cable to your GPU it will not boot
