so, when I hanlded my 1700x, for the first time. getting a look at the pin layout seemed oddly familiar, like really familiar but I could not figure out why

so we know what am4 pins look like

so this is am4, then yesterday in computer class we have a hardware bin. so I was going through it and something caught my eye. it was an old Sempron processor. I picked it up and I finally realized why am4 looked so familiar.

Literally almost all of them look the same...

AM2, AM3, AM3+, etc etc etc

 

Same for intel, 1156, 1155, 1151, etc...

 

There is no need to make them different unless you need more pins like in the case of threadripper or extreme edition CPUs.

It's literally just a square with a bunch of pins or contacts.

am3 was basically all pins and am1 and fm2 are pretty similar. but not quite like am4 with the rear perfect square in the middle. just was a curious discovery
