I'm trying to find a passively cooled entry level gpu that can do 1920x1080 @ 144hz. I'd love any suggestion. Card is for csgo and hots.

I had a 1050TI which was overkill for me then decided to go fanless. I saw the Palit version but it is expensive and the memory runs so hot that I worry about longevity. The xfx rx460 crashes without a case fan. I had a 1030gt as well. The performance was adequate except the card only runs at 60hz over single link dvi or hdmi. I can't find information about the msi version with displayport. Msi is no help.

You're in GTX1070/1070ti/1080 territory there.

So there's really no passively cooled entry level GPU that can do that.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

What's your reason for going fanless? Any entry level card would be much better if it was actively cooled.

DisplayPort is also what you'll want, since it supports higher refresh rates than HDMI or DVI.

I edited. I don't need a 1070 to play csgo.

You will if you want to run games at 144Hz, practically no entry level card is capable of that.

I do some recording and do not want fan noise. Also I leave the pc on to do things and I'm a light sleeper. I'm thinking about getting a mobo with a thunderbolt port, using a gpu and just unplugging it when not gaming.

Hmm. Well, if you get an external GPU you will have be bottlenecked since Thunderbolt 3 doesn't give nearly enough bandwidth to run a GPU at full PCIe 3.0 x16 speeds.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. Fan noise isn't usually a big problem with recording as microphones are generally far enough away from the system to not pick anything up.

If you're worried about the PC causing you sleep issues, you could move it to a different spot in your house or apartment, right? As far as I know, you won't be able to get the results you want with an entry level card, you will need at least a 1070 to push 144Hz even at just 1080p.

An entry level card with a fan wouldn't be loud.

My hd7570 from 2012 does it so I find that hard to believe.

Csgo is not very demanding.

Well ok to be fair I've not played CS:GO or looked into it too much.

A 1050 or 1050Ti would be enough for you, and those wouldn't get too loud as long as you got a bigger card that has a larger heatsink.

I see you have the asumption that an entry level card will be more silent than a mid range or high performance card for your particular load. Not true.

1060 Strix will remain in 0db fan mode most of the time with CS:GO @144hz. Thats passive cooling without constraints or an entry level card. It just requires a bit of software configurations, thats all.

For future threads, id recommend you to post what you want to accomplish rather than how. And be specific. 1080p@144 gaming is not the same as CS:GO 1080p@144hz. That's why people keep telling you no entry card will suffice.

Cheers.

Per OP, the problem with that card is Palit poorly chose memory that runs hot on an already fanless card. The memory runs at 96c under load - well over Micron's specs. I guess I should look for threads about the card failing and how palit was to deal with for warranty.

I did. I said I want 144hz 1080p card with no fan. That is all. I did not say I want to run crysis at 144fps, but I will try to be more explicit in the future so these assumptions aren't made. Though I'm not sure why they would be made after I stated that the 1050TI was overkill and 1030 adequate except for the refresh rate.

he wanted to run CSGO on 144hz. Nothing else. Low level cards are actually capable of that

I would look at liquid cooling. You might not even need a radiator on a 1050 or something to liquid cool it. Just a pump. I mean its a lot of work but if it was just liquid flowing over it and maybe just a fanless radiator itd be fine.

Forget the fan less card idea, just get one with a beefy heat sink so the fans can run at a lower rpm. Your loudest fan will be the determining one and honestly your CPU heat sink fans are likely to make noise if not more then a GPU heat sink fan. My 980 Ti's below a ~50% GPU load, none of the cards fans even turn on till things get taxing. So if your serious about a fan less card you better make damn sure your case has really good air flow...

There are no other fans or moving parts. I have a seasonic fanless platinum plus psu, a zalman fx100 heat sink and a crucial mx500 sata ssd. My cpu is limited.

I think I'll try the msi 1030 2gh lp oc with displayport and see if it can run at 144hz or at least 120hz but I'm going to have to buy one to find out.

Yeah I mean ther's some EK kits for around 250 for the gpu that you could get. The A240G is a good option if you also want to cool your processor with just one fan or so and just turn the RPM down alot

Maybe an rx 550 with an arctic cooling accelero s3? It isnt on the supported cards list but it might work with the non low profile cards, that is if I don't have the same issue as with the 1030. At 50w TDP I wonder why I don't see passive versions of this card.

The passive msi with dp just showed up. Does 144hz even though it says 120hz. Csgo is averaging about 160 fps 1080p low with 1% drops in the 120s. 60-100 fps in hots on 1080p ultra.

Happy as a pig in a peach orchard even though this "new" card was clearly open box.
