building a custom pc desk

hello i'm cap

this is the first time i have ever posted on LTT

so i was thinking of building my own pc desk (just a desk not a PC in a desk) and I had the idea of using an acrylic top well more like a top plate set on top wood top that i can paint. but what would be better acrylic or Plexiglas?  also i have an old 720p monitor im not using any more so i was thinking about installing it face up but under the acrylic. hooked up to an old laptop im not using any more built and using mouse without borders to control it. kinda like a third monitor but built into the desk. and call me crazy but i was thinking about a built in USB hub.and modular speaker stands something like small holes drilled close to the back and stands on pegs that could fit in the slots. anyway i was just looking for input. am i crazy or can this be done. looking forward to your ideas and thoughts on this idea.

Tbh if anyone tries hard enough hit can be doable. Kinda what it's is to be a creative thinker. your able to see what other may find as impossible.

Some people prefer a challenge, I just band my head against a wall until my method works...

1. I thought acrylic might give it a unique look and its easy to make custom cuts and shapes. also glass seemed like it might be hared to work with.

2.do they sell pvc in sheets? i always thought it only came in pipes.

would a few coats of clear paint help against scratches?

thanks for the input.

Consider bar top resin stuff is pretty durable and simple to use

Personally I would suggest to use a glass top instead, if you can get a standard sheet of tempered glass from say Ikea it would be much more scratch resistant than Acrylic.

Well if going with tempered glass just consider building your desk around the glass you found rather than trying to cut the glass to fit your desk
