OBS often sits at 9%+ GPU utilization on a 1080ti with NVENC enabled

If the GPU usage in OBS cause performance issues, you could enable the integrated GPU in the BIOS and use the QuickSync encoder (Intel's equivalient of NVENC).

This seems absurdly high. I was told using NVENC, the difference Geforce Now would be negligible. This usage according to task manager. I switched to "High Quality, Medium File Size" but that didn't change anything. (I never stream by the way, only record.)

Yeah it's normal for OBS to use like 10% of your GPU when using NVENC when you're recording.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Encoding video is actually hard work for the computer, especially in high quality. Fortunately, the GPU is very good at doing it quickly and efficiently.

As I edited, I was told using hardware encoding it would not be that much different from Geforce Now, but I don't recall ever seeing usage that high with it.

Why not use Shadowplay?

Because more than half of my video files are corrupted the moment they're captured.

*ShadowPlay

In Task Manager it might now show it the same way but the same amount of GPU power is used. You're not losing anything by using OBS instead of Shadowplay.

OBS Studio offers substantially more options and is a lot more customizable.

Shadowplay uses the same thing that Shadowplay uses on Nvidia GPUs (NVENC).

I did like the fact that Shadowplay can put captures in individual folders on a game by game basis, haven't found out how to do that with OBS. OBS also prevents my PC from going to sleep as long as the replay buffer is active.

I'd prefer to use Shadowplay, but as I said before, most captures are corrupted files.

I already have enabled it to run one of my side monitors. I'll give that a shot, thanks!

GPU usage is down to about 3.4%, so that's an improvement. I'll test some gameplay recordings later today.
