So i currently have a galaxy note 8.  my question is there something that i can either download or something like that will essentlally lock certant files behind biometrics or passcode?  What im trying to do is i have notes within my phone that hold my passwords to my accounts and if i lose my phone and that person manages to get into it, then they have my passwords to important things of mine.  Ive tried using secure folder within the OS but cant really seem to figure out how it works and how i can get notes into it.  So hopefully there is something that does what im looking for or im kinda screwd if i lose my phone

I wouldn't keep a file with your passwords on a device that can be stolen, even if they're locked behind their own passwords.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

I would recommend Password managers, but just last month lastpass got breached too.

The most secure way is just to get a piece of paper and write it down somewhere.

If you want to lock certain things behind an extra password or something you could try KNOX, which I believe is installed by default on all samsung devices.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

KNOX was discontinued in 2016 or 2017.

Do what I do. Write all passwords on a file then encrypt it and upload it to the cloud. Keep a local copy on the phone, also encrypted. Whenever you need the file, just decrypt it temporarily. No one can access your file even if they got their hands on your phone and break your screen lock.

There are several apps you can use for that.

https://github.com/GAO23/Chain_Encryption

i use the one above. I code it myself so I know it can be trusted. Haha

there is no app which can encrypt app data. Android apps are running in a sand box and only can break out if they have a premission. This mean you android system encrpytion is the only system wide encryption

for you  password you can use KeePass for android but it is still android with all the problems if you phone gets older.

Yes there is. You just need to find the files and the app data. Root might be require. The problem is that if these app data are encrypted, how is original apps going to use the files?

To to make this anywhere useful, it must be implemented system wide or the developers who coded the apps must code the encryption suspport nativity into the apps.

Former means the android OS will encrypt and decrypt all app data automatically while the latter means the programmers for an app had to figure out an encryption scheme and implement it native into the app.
