I own an EVGA GTX970 SC. Never OCed and left running stock for about two years. Decided to push it today and I ended with a +50 on the core and +300 on the memory via MSI Afterburner. The voltage slider does nothing, as does the memory slider past 300. I'm assuming this is as high as I can go? Is it a good OC or nah? Hitting 4213 pts via furmark 1080p preset.

Did you use any benchmarking software or you just downloaded MSI Afterburner and added some random values?

Furmark score above, did 5 runs and avg it out.

No. Use Heaven Benchmark and uncheck FullScreen Mode.

1) Open MSI Afterburner and Start the Benchmark in Windowed (Don't touch any other setting)

2) Don't touch voltage

3) Increase Core Clock +25 and wait 5-10 seconds for benchmark. If it doesn't freeze/crash increase +25 again and again until it freezes/crashes. Then decrease to get the stable value

4) Then increase Memory by +50 and do exactly the same thing as you did with Core Clock

5) Done. After that leave the Benchmark for about 5 minutes to see if it's stable

6) Save Profile and click "Startup" (Apply on Windows boot)

7) Test some heavy games like BF1, GTA V to see if it's ACTUALLY stable, if not then lower some values (-25 on Core or -50 on Memory)

That's it. Also, don't forget to check temps!

I have an MSI 4gd5t that will do 300 core and 750 memory before it overheats and throttles.  The 970 is a great card...

The only problem is that it doesn't actually have 4GB VRAM :D

How does one get more than +300 on memory? I can't push the slider past 300?

What card is this? As far as I know, the EVGA SC cards aren't binned at all.

Asus Strix, I dont think they are binned, the ASIC quality isnt very good, its one toasty card, but the cooler is so thicc.

Interesting, I always thought the strix cards were top of the line. Wish I had enough for a 1060, Cuz I'd get it in a heartbeat. This 970 is just not liking my node 202

Yeah.. I had an EVGA SC, it wouldnt overclocked nearly as high, it was hotter, a little longer, and a bit shorter (thanks heatpipes) at my 1675mhz oc, it gets around 74c max temp

i don't remember what the + was on my card, but the boost speeds were something like 1575/3800?? I had to use a modded bios to boost the minimum voltage to 1.1v because it wouldn't play older games without crashing. i had 2 profiles for it, 1250@1.1 and 1575@1.275v. The luckers got 1650+  so i had a shitty card.

Can't even hit 1400 in Valley or 1500 in heaven. In Valley it's power limited even though the slider's fully cranked, and Heaven is unstable past 1485mhz. I can't even adjust the voltage on my card. Sad.
