My father approached me earlier saying he would fund a mining system and as soon as it paid itself off i could have the rest of the profit. I know what mining is and how it works but i don't know if gpu mining is the best way to go or dedicated machines. I have fairly low internet and some money to spend. Is it worth getting into mining this late and any other tips or help you guys have?

GPU is probably best, problem is that they're insanely expensive.

Sure!

You'll probably earn around $2 a day, which can really add up over time.

where do i start?

Download a common mining program.

Nicehash is the most profitable, but it's really hard to cash out. maybe mine to a coinbase wallet if you trust them with your bitcoins.

if you want to cash out easier, try winminer. it's a bit less profitable, but still fine, and you can cash out at $20

The money a 1060 will get you a day, just get a part time job for 1 day a week and you ll earn 50x more :)

Mining is silly unless you have 5k+ hardware to dump into it.

Depends, my current 8th gen update was mostly funded through BTC, and I'm only mining with an old HD7870 and a 1060 3GB ;)

I beg to differ. Guess it all depends on what you define as silly. I'll take my $600-800/month profit with my $1,000 machine all for just setting up a program and hitting go...seems like a no brainer to me.
