Post fails with 8 RAM modules but works with 6

Setup works flawless when 6 RAM modules are inserted (Slots A1,B1,C1,D1,B2,D2 or A1,B1,C1,D1,A2,B2). But when I insert 8 RAM modules i get error "d0".

I tried every RAM module in Slot A1 and everyone works.

I tried mixing the RAM modules into other slots, but no luck.

I reseated the CPU, no luck.

I exchanged the Mainboard, no luck.

I cleared CMOS, no luck.

I set DRAM Voltage to 1.35V, no luck.

I tried lower DRAM frequency, no luck.

I used alternatively the DOCP Profile for the RAM, no luck.

Setup:

CPU: AMD Threadripper 1950x

Mainboard: ASUS X399-E Gaming ROG STRIX, Bios 0402

RAM: 2 x HyperX Fury 4x16 GB DDR4 2400 CL15

GPU: ASUS GT-210 Silent

PSU: Corsair RM850x

SSD: Samsung 960 EVO

OS: Win10 Pro

Although it works with 6 modules perfectly.

D0 - CPU initialization error
Could you be borderline on minimum power required?
Have you tried unplugging the SSD and powering up?

No, PSU by far enough (850W with passive GPU).

SSD is M2 connected. Should not make a difference when going from 6 to 8 modules.

I was trying to eliminate the possibility of a defective power supply.

PSU is definitely okay. We tested the Threadripper with Prime95 and it's stable with 6 RAM modules.

I've got a perfect solution, give me those defective sticks and I'll dispose of them properly ;)

Seriously though try an RMA

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Bot sets of RAM work perfectly fine on there own. Each RAM module works if I insert it alone. So there is not a "defective" stick.

As already seen in the link above (https://community.amd.com/thread/220821) the BIOS is probably not capable of handling 8 modules at a time, which should be a standard feature for a motherboard with 8 slots...

Ah yes, the classic Zen RAM compatibility.  Try and get the agesa I suppose.

Thanks for the AGESA hint. I contacted ASUS again and they sent me an internal BIOS (version 503) and with this it works.
