Should I get Pascal or wait for Volta?

It's never worth it to wait. There's always something better on the horizon. There is no release date or confirmation gaming cards on Volta will even be a thing, so there's that too.

In this case it's better to wait given the prices of Pascal and Polaris.

Just wait for Volta and snag a card for its MSRP, rather than this overpriced GPUs that we have on the market right now...

I would get a 980/980Ti if you want something right now.

Should I get Pascal or wait for Volta?

I already owned a GTX 1060 but sold it about a week due to some reason.

My main rig sports a Ryzen 5 1600 so I'm not able to boot up without a Graphics card. So I'm planning to get a new card.

Is it worth the wait for Volta?

Or

Should I just get a GTX 1080/Ti?

Again, there might not be Volta for gamers. Nvidia never confirmed they would make the cards at all since competition isn't really a thing at the moment.

But yeah, Maxwell cards are the way to go right now. Flippin' miners....

*sigh* GPU manufactures could have nipped this shortage in the bud a LOOOONG time ago, but chose not to. It's not miners' fault they didn't open a secondary channel sooner.

Why do miners have to mine with GPUs ? Why can't they mine with i dunno... old PCI Sound Cards ? :D:D

Because most of them don't know what they are doing. Smart people mine with ASICs, not 15 GPUs.

You can't mine 1/2 of the coins out there with an ASIC, and many of these ASIC resistant coins are doing better than an ASIC is paying out.

So there's that.

Did you sell it because your card is currently worth twice what it used to be?

I'm debating doing that myself.

Well I sold my 1060 for almost $400

I didn't know that the current prices of the 1060 are twice of what it used to be

before selling it.

At current prices... just wait.

And hope that cryptocurrencies crash in the meantime, or by the time Volta rolls around people will be mining on those as well.

Yeah the uncertainty around Volta has be upgrading at the  moment, the problem was finding a 1080 Ti that wasn't $1200+.  However I managed to get a SC2 Hybrid Ti directly from EVGA for $845 shipped and managed to sell my 2 month old EVGA GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 for $650 when I bout it for $545.

So now my system gets a huge boost in GPU performance and I am fully liquid cooled

I have said this before, but mining will put fluxes in the GPU market for the foreseeable future.  Even if Volta comes out for various reasons I still see Pascal retaining a lot of its resale value, thus making an upgrade to Volta or whatever is next easier on the wallet
