New build display questions

(InsertNameHere)

So I want to run a 4k tv as well as a couple 1920x1080 displays off of one of the current generation MacBook Pro for a new build... Is this feasible? If it is should I go with the 2 port or the 4 port models? I don't know too much about thunderbolt 3...

I believe you will need the 4 port model, but yes it should be doable.

And then ya think I just run one monitor off each port?

Why a macbook?

Might want one of the plugable docks

https://plugable.com/2017/11/21/plugable-introduces-upgraded-usb-c-triple-display-docking-station-4k-support-three-outputs/

Should also get IPS monitors instead of TN ones

I have the 15-inch model (4-port) and it is nice to have the option of switching around cables to either side. That being said I have never tried to run a 4K display with it but it runs a 2K display just fine. And Apple makes a 5K display for these bad boys so I'm pretty sure you would be fine.

My Rig:  Motherboard - ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING | CPU Intel Core i5 6600K 3.5 GHz | GPU ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 | RAM CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) | Case Cooler Master Storm Trooper | Keyboard Logitech G910 | Mouse Logitech G502

I really like GarageBand and Logic Pro so thats why a Mac Book. That pluggable dock sounds pretty nice. If I understand it correctly, I can run all those ports at the same time just fine? That might be a solution... OH and would running a 120 hz monitor at 60 hz be... bad? and I realized that those two monitors are not the same ones that I have now... I can't seem to find them but they are IPS already

Yeah I think that the one 4k monitor would be fine, but I am starting to wonder if maybe I could run both 1920 monitors off of one port... that might be cool

You could, but would need a hub which are usually quite expensive.

Is there really no alternative? Because the hardware in them is a joke, especially for a $1000+ machine. All dual cores with no GPU. Can get the same hardware performance out of older machines for under $500

Yeah, I've been messing around with other DAWs and I can't find anything that I like as much as GB or Logic...

Sure, if you don't mind spending as much as buying a third monitor

Ight, and if I do, just stick with the "plug one monitor into each port"

Then I would highly suggest you look into a used machine, where you can get a quad core i7, 16GBs of RAM, and a 500GB SSD for $1050
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834098077

Still almost double the price for the same hardware in some other machines though

There also appears to be a good amount of people turning thinkpads into hackintosh machines

Here's one for $1099 with a 750M GPU and same specs as above

Should I still be fine running that same monitor config?

ALSO I don't think I am that "tech minded" to make a hackintosh...

Always a good idea to get learning, and save like $500 bucks...

Far as triple display goes, probably just need to look up the graphics solution on the machine, I think plugable might list what versions of macbook are compatible or something. Or just send them a tweet.

The learning part is true. And for the graphics part, should I just start a thread over on the graphics forum and ask hey would this work?

Just google whatever graphics the machine has that you're looking at with "Max Displays", there's the 750M

https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-750M.90245.0.html

Features

The feature set includes support for up to 4 active displays. Furthermore, high resolution monitors of up to 3840x2160 pixels can now be connected using DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 1.4a if available. HD-Audio codecs, such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD, can be transmitted via bitstream mode through the HDMI port. However, as most laptops will feature Optimus, the integrated GPU will likely have direct control over the display ports and may limit the feature set available by the Nvidia Kepler cards.

May need a dock or Display Port hub with laptops in general though
