Okay I have just received my new gtx1060 to replace my old gtx760 and would like to know the exact steps I must take to install it in my PC safely. I got sent one a week ago and it didn't seem to work, but it may have just been a faulty GPU, so this is why I want to be extra careful and get professional help.

Cpu- i5 4670k

OK, here it goes:

  1. Insert your GPU in the PCI-e slot (make sure you have disconnected the power from your PC, just to be safe)
  2. Plug in the PCI-e power connectors from your PSU into the card, I 'm not exactly sure how many connectors it has though
  3. Power on your PC, make sure the fans are spinning, and plug in your monitor
  4. Install drivers and have fun!

Hey there!

If you're worried that you're installing the GPU wrong, I suggest you take your computer off your case. Place your motherboard on top of its box (it's non-conductive), then run the connections needed so the computer works, connect the GPU to the motherboard and plug in the 6 or 8-pin connector from the power supply to the graphics card. Make sure you connect your display to the GPU, then fire up the computer by shorting the power-on pins (the ones you'd connect your case's power button to in the motherboard).

See if you can get to the BIOS. If you can, connect your storage devices and try to boot into the Operating System. If you've made it to this point, congrats the GPU is in working order and you can put your computer back in the case!

Then download Display Driver Uninstaller from https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ and run it to wipe any driver you may have.

Afterward, download the latest Geforce driver from the Nvidia website and install it. You should be good then.

download the latest NVIDIA drivers for the GTX 1060

run DDU to remove the current drivers and shut down

remove the old card and the power cable(s) for it

place in the new card and plug in its power cables

power up the system and install the drivers you downloaded

done

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

So installing the driver's before the card is installed is fine, everything should work fine?

no dont install untill you have the new card installed, just download it, remove the current one and shut down. like there is no real harm in installing it before but it can get a bit glitchy and stuff
