Hopefully next year im going to be building a gaming rig it isn't going to be fully water cooled or anything but here are the specs so far.

Case- Fractal Design Define R4 (Windowed)

Mobo- Asus Z87 Pro

CPU- Core i7 4770 (Haswell)

RAM- 8GB Corsair Vengeance memory

Cooler- Corsair H80i (2013)

GPU- 4GB AMD Radeon R9 290x

Storage- 256Gb Sandisk Ultra Plus

OS- Windows 8.1 Pro

Monitor- Asus PA248Q

PSU- 650W Corsair RM series (Modular)

Is this a good config or is there anything I can choose better

(im keeping the 290x because its the best I can afford)

If your from the UK that would help me loads but if you from anywhere else then thats fine. The place I will be getting all my components from is www.scan.co.uk

Next year is a while from now. I recommend you plan ~2-3 days before you're actually buying. Parts and prices change frequently so any parts list you come up with now will be quite irrelevant.

Change that 290x for a 290(aftermarket) they both have the same performance. Also wait for the aftermarket version because the current stock version goes to hot and loud.

Also go with the i5 4670k that is all the performance you'll be needed to be playing on a gaming PC. The 4770k is for those who do video edit and etc.

You'll need a hdd to 2tb will be good

But if you are going to buy next year don't worry about this prices change and new technology comes out very frequently. So just wait on this

cpu:i5-4670k | Ram: 16gb | Case:Nzxt phantom 520 | Psu: corsair tx850 gold

mobo: Asus hero | Gpu: evga 780 | Storage: seagate 2tb/smamsung evo 240gb

Sound: Corsair 2100 / Mouse: Corsair m65 mouse / Keyboard: Corsair k70 / Display Vizio 23inch hdtv (changing soon)

im sorry i should know this but what does aftermarket mean?

AMD came out with reference cards to send out to Sapphire, XFX, and other companies to change and sell.

The reference card is usually not to be sold and the cooler isn't that good but for some reason, they started selling it that way probably because of the popularity of the Titan selling with the stock cooler.

Aftermarket cards will have better coolers that will be quieter, looks better, and allow for better overclocking due to more fans.

For example:

Aftermarket:

There's little reason to go for the stock cooler unless the aftermarket ones aren't out yet, you need the reference pcb to mount a water block for a custom loop, or looks.

It shouldn't be long. Gigabyte already has their aftermarket 290x's on their site and should be shipping out the cards in several days or so.

Asus has already teased their DCU II 290x.
