Hi,

I own a Sennheiser HD 700 and a chord mojo for a DAC. I both use them for listening to music.

But after a while, I thought that maybe I could use my audiophile pair of headphones for 'Gaming' Uses as well.

But I don't know what software or hardware I should get to make that happen.

I heard that audiophile grade headphones have a great sound stage which is great for 'Gaming',

But I don't know if my Mojo would be able to take advantage of that in 'Gaming' purpose.

Thank you very much Linus Tech Tipers,

Martin

Actually all games now mostly use ALAC and FLAC audio files. This is proved via official soundtracks. U will get the same fun in games as u get in music. Because even games use music.

Your HD700 alone with just onboard are better than any set of gaming headset with some BS software for gaming. Plus it is not like there will be a audio file that your mojo wouldn't be able to decode. The audio engines in fps games today are quite good, so it really doesn't really make sense to invest in software to fake surround sound (which would also fuck up the quality of the sound and make things sound weird).

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

He has a mojo though, so that will be even better.

Op, use exactly what you use for music.

Yep, just wanted to make the point that even with onboard it would be great for gaming. :D

So you want an hrtf, or you will be limited to hearing 2 angles. Since you have a dac with optical input, one thing you could do is get a soundcard, set up its virtual surround sound, and configure it for optical output. That's the hardware solution.

There's also a bunch of software stuff you can do where you don't have to buy stuff. There's the reddit equalizer apo thing you can do ( https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/6rtbcb/guide_every_headphone_surround_virtualization_on/) . There's also razer surround.

Then there is the in game stuff, for the games that have it. Overwatch has dolby atmos for headphones as an option in the audio settings, so you can simply use that in this case.

Thank you,

But the thing is that when I just use my HD 700 with or without the Mojo on my computer (Integrated Sound Card Asus IX Maximus Formula), I get the feeling that in games such as PUBG,

I don't get quite the same surround accuracy as with my Logitech G933.

For exemple, I can't make the difference when there is sound in front and behind my character...

I tried to use Dolby Atmos (the windows integrated app) but it still doesn't feel as precise...

Got any ideas of what I'm doing wrong or what I should do to get the great surround experience that everybody tells me I should have with my headset ?

Thank you in advance,

Martin

I think the issue is that you have to set windows to 7.1 to get pubg to output surround sound. So with dolby atmos for headphones enabled, you have a good headphone conversion for surround sound, you just don't have the game outputting surround sound because of windows/game logic.

So the things I'd look at are the reddit virtual surround sound method, razer surround, or getting a soundcard like the xonar dgx which has optical output and dolby headphone.
