Youtube Casting to TV

Do I need a Chromecast dongle to be able to play Youtube videos on my TV, a Samsung MU6400? I'm not really clear on this.

When I press the "Cast" button either in the app on my phone or in Chrome, the TV does start the app, but no video starts playing.

My TV does show up in the list of available devices and according to Chrome it is casting though (blue icon), however nothing shows up.

The PC and TV are wired to a switch, the phone is (of course) wireless.

 

[Edit] Works now, only now the quality usually doesn't go above 480p/720p, which kind of defeats the point of a 4k tv

it usually takes a moment to fire up the video but in theory that should work just fine.

Try signing in to your youtube account on the TV, maybe that helps for some reason.

Tried that before posting, but it didn't do anything. However for some reason 5 minutes after posting here it decided it wanted to cooperate and just works now.

The only thing is the quality now. For some reason it thinks 480p or 720p is a good resolution to play, even though it are 1080p or 2160p videos...

well, i haven't encountered that yet. Maybe there is some setting in the YT app that allows you to push the quality higher or your TV thinks the internet connection is too slow and just lowers it automatically.

Looking at the "Stats for nerds" it is jumping around 480p->720p->1080p->1440p and then jumps between those. I cannot force a quality in the app. In my browser I can play uhd just fine though...
