Hard Drive Return Question

I am returning a hard drive that didn't work well and I cloned all my data to it before noticing the issues. When unplugging the hard drive the power connector to the drive broke and now I can't wipe my data off the drive before sending it in for a return. Is it safe to return hard drives with data on them? I can't go and wipe it anymore so I'm worried. I bought it from outletpc through walmart.

I did enter my credit card information on websites and such. I am not sure if the browser saved that information.

You're screwed, but Outlet PC will likely just return it to the distributor who will send it to the manufacturer who will then recycle any components that aren't damaged.

You don't have anything to worry about. Most companies could care less about what is on the drive.

Yeah, I don't think they'd go through the work to fix the circuit board to attempt to get to the data. Also they're not supposed to try to access the drive.

 

 I'm more worried about them actually taking the drive back because you broke the sata power connector off.

I think you'll have an issue when it comes to the RMA because of the physical damage. You can say it happened after, but in the end they're likely going to deny it.
