Product key confusion

Will I have to get a new product key if I clean install (not upgrade) Windows 10 on a laptop with genuine Windows 8 (not 8.1)? Or the product key is usable in Windows 10?

Yeah. Just install Windows 8 and free upgrade to Windows 10 (there's a loophole)

I don't think so. So first, 8 to 8.1, then to 10.

The problem is, I tried a few times to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but every time it gives me errors. No way to upgrade to 8.1.

8.1 is a free update AFAIK. What I did was go from 8 to 8.1 to 10 using my 8 Pro license and the loophole upgrade. 

 

I don’t think you can go from 8 to 10 directly
