Old Dual GPU Card or New Single GPU Card for RemoteFX Acceleration

kprose3154

I have a virtualization setup with Hyper-V and I want to add GPU Acceleration to one of my VMs. I could get a dual GPU card that is older for free or get a new single GPU card out of pocket in the $100 to $200 range. Which is better for what I am using it for. (The dual GPU was never used intensity because I am getting it from a friend.)

What GPUs are in the dual config or what single GPU would you get?

The dual GPU would be a R9 290 and the single would be a EVGA 1050 SC Gaming

EDIT:

The dual GPU is a 6990

That’s a single GPU and is better than the 1050. It uses a massive amount of power though.

I agree as long as you have the power headroom the R9 290's would be the better option

I made a mistake the dual GPU is a 6990. Also the GPU would be going into a HP DL380 G6 with two 750w power supplys

6990 is still much better, each 6950 is about as powerful as a 1030-1050

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I'm not too sure on the statement that each of the GPU dies is as fast as a 1050 but if the crossfire can be fully utilized then the 6990 would be better but else the GTX 1050 is better

(Note the Crossfire is disabled on the 6990 in this benchmark)

Eh, if the 6990 is free it can’t hurt to try... make sure you have lots of power headroom.
